PRAYER FOR THE DAY: Eternal God, neither death nor life can separate us from your love. Grant that we may serve you faithfully here on earth, and in heaven rejoice with all your saints who ceaselessly proclaim your glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

LEADER: The proof of God’s amazing love for us is this:
while we were sinners Christ died for us.
PEOPLE: Because we have faith in him, we dare to approach God with confidence.

before God and one another.
ALL: Eternal God, you promise to dwell with us forever. You promise to wipe away every tear from our eyes. Through the prophet Isaiah you invite your people to a feast of rich food and well-aged wines. We are slow to rejoice in your promises. We are inattentive to the communion of saints surrounding us. INVITATION TO THE TABLE
LEADER: Friends, this is the joyful feast of the people of God! Men and women will come from east and west, and from north and south, and sit at table in the Kingdom of God. According to Luke, when our risen Lord was at table with his disciples, he took bread and blessed it and broke it, and gave it to them.

Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him. This is our Lord’s table. Our Savior invites all who love him to share the feast which he has prepared.

Hebrews 9:24-28 (page 976) Christ is in heaven as his eternal temple. Mark 12:38-44 (page 825) Jesus condemns the respected scribes and honors a poor widow.

PRAYER FOR PEACE - WOMEN’S HEALTH  PC(USA) medical co-workers in developing countries see how the oppression of women in certain cultures has been worsened by the world food crisis, tribal conflicts, and pandemics like HIV/AIDS.  The Mission Connection (Fall 2009 issue) reports that at the Leboke Clinic in Mobele, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the number of rape victims doubled in the past two years alone.  In some cultures, single women who have experienced sexual violence resulting in pregnancy are rejected by family and community.  In India, which has the third-highest number of reported cases of HIV/AIDS in the world, the Church of North India is sponsoring an awareness program for rural people who have very little knowledge of the pandemic.  Women are critical to the well being of families and communities in developing countries and services for women are often the most neglected.  Dear Father in Heaven, please bless the efforts of all those working to protect and improve the living conditions of women.  Guide the actions of governments and care givers to provide the right solutions to the women in rural parts of our world so that the women can live healthy lives.  Their health will lead to the health of their children and of their families, and we pray for them all.  Amen.

WHO WAS THAT YOUNG MAN!? Many of you have asked that question this past week.  The talented man who gave the moving portrayal of Bartimaeus last Sunday is Daniel (Dan) Thompson.  Dan is a friend of Luke’s and Jeff’s and he works with Young Life.  He aspires to be used by God to His ministry here on earth in any way He leads.  Dan’s parents are missionaries and Dan is currently raising money to go to China for two years starting July 2010 to teach English.  So, in the meantime, we are blessed with his presence here at First Church and are truly grateful for his sharing his gifts with us.
