The First Presbyterian Church of Dunedin
The Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
October 25, 2009
10:30 a.m.
Enter the church in silence. Through silence speak to God and let God speak to you.
PREPARATION: The following are the scripture texts for this morning: Psalm 34:1-8, (19-22) (Pew Bible pages 441-442); Job 42:1-6, 10-17 (page 424) Job speaks to God with humble words, and God restores his fortunes. Hebrews 7:23-28 (page 974) Jesus is our high priest, who has offered himself as the sacrifice. Mark 10:46-52 (page 823) Jesus heals a blind man named Bartimaeus.
PRAYER FOR THE DAY: Send your Holy Spirit into our hearts, Almighty God, to rule and direct us according to your will, to comfort us in all our temptations and afflictions, to defend us from all error, and lead us into all truth; that we, being steadfast in the faith, may increase in love and in all good works, and in the end obtain everlasting life; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND WELCOME
PRELUDE Air from Water Music Suite Handel
INTROIT (Hymn #525) Here I Am, Lord Schutte
CHOIR: I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard My people cry.
All who dwell in deepest sin My hand will save.
I who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear My light to them? Whom shall I send?
*ALL: (REFRAIN) Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.
I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have heard My peoples pain.
I have wept for love of them, they turn away.
I will break their hearts of stone, give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak My word to them. Whom shall I send?
*OPENING SENTENCES
LEADER: God comes, looking for people who wish to see the Holy in everyday life.
PEOPLE: Here I am, God send me.
LEADER: God calls, looking for people to bring peace to the world.
PEOPLE: Here I am, God send me.
LEADER: God searches, looking for those who can bring their vision and strength
to grace the world.
PEOPLE: Here I am, God send me.
LEADER: God invites all who would live with more faith.
PEOPLE: Here I am, God send me.
LEADER: God beckons us into worship,
that we might know the Holy right here and now.
ALL: Come, let us worship the Lord!
*HYMN #485 To God Be the Glory To God Be the Glory
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
LEADER: If anyone sins, we have someone who pleads with the Father on our behalf Jesus Christ, the righteous one.
PEOPLE: Christ himself is the means, by which our sins are forgiven,
and not our sins only, but also the sins of everyone.
LEADER: Let us confess our sins before God and one another.
ALL: Jesus, our healer, you give sight to the blind. We close our eyes to those who are different from us: at school, at work, at the store, at the playground. We close our eyes to those who worship you differently from us: through music, through prayers, through preaching. Open our eyes, Lord Christ. Heal and forgive us. Empower us in your Spirit to reach out to those who are different, and learn how they see you in the world. Amen.
RESPONSE (Hymn #390) O Savior, in This Quiet Place St. Stephen
CHOIR: O Savior, in this quiet place, where anyone may kneel,
I also come to ask for grace, believing you can heal.
ALL: Of all my prayers, may this be chief: till faith is fully grown,
Lord, disbelieve my unbelief, and claim me as your own.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
LEADER: God has not left us in the darkness,
but given us Christ who enlightens our lives.
PEOPLE: Following him, we are led into the brightness of new life and service.
LEADER: In his light we see light and truth.
ALL: We are forgiven people! Praise be to God and to Jesus the Christ!
*GLORIA PATRI (Hymnal #579) Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

PRAYER FOR PEACE MUSLIMS share with Christians their history, theological similarities, and aspirations for social justice. We are both communities of faith. Religious differences provide fertile ground for animosity and misunderstanding. Yet as Christians, we are called to work for truth and reconciliation. Over the years, both Muslims and Christians have dealt with extremists who distort the character of true belief. Significant, intelligent dialogue and the development of authentic friendships across religious lines are keys to deepening our mutual faith. Father in Heaven, bless us all as we come to you regularly and fervently in our prayers. Open our hearts to others who believe different than we do. Give us understanding of each other, and help us see sympathetically through each others eyes. Amen.
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A CHURCH HOME and are interested in joining First Presbyterian Church of Dunedin, please indicate your desire to Pastor ByRoade so we can arrange a gathering of our Session.
