INTROIT (Hymn #276) Great Is Thy Faithfulness Faithfulness
CHOIR: Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father,
there is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not;
as Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.
*ALL: (Refrain): Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
all I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!
*OPENING SENTENCES

LEADER: Wait for God, let your hearts wait for Gods truth.
PEOPLE: We wait for the God who brings the words of life. (silence)

LEADER: With open minds and ready hearts -

*HYMN #293 This Is My Fathers World Terra Beata
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
LEADER: Since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens,
Jesus, the Son of God,
PEOPLE: let us with confidence draw near to the throne of grace
that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in time of need.
LEADER: Let us ask God to forgive us.
ALL: Holy God, you call us to imitate our Lord, your Son. You call us to speak truth to one another, but we are afraid and silent. You call us to be angry when we see injustice, but we are angry with those we love. You call us to encourage one another with our words, but we speak ill of our brothers and sisters. You call us to forgive one another as Christ has forgiven us, but we are bitter and resentful, not wanting to forgive. How we must grieve your Holy Spirit, O God. Forgive us, yet again. Point us toward Christ. Empower us through your Spirit to follow him more nearly. Amen.
RESPONSE (Hymn #347) Forgive Our Sins as We Forgive Detroit
CHOIR: Forgive our sins as we forgive, You taught us, Lord, to pray,
but You alone can grant us grace to live the words we say.
ALL: Lord, cleanse the depths within our souls and bid resentment cease.
Then, bound to all in bonds of love, our lives will spread Your peace.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
LEADER: Jesus gave himself as broken bread that we might know the height,
depth and breadth of Gods love.
PEOPLE: In the cross of Christ we have been given assurance
that our sin is hidden in God.
LEADER: We are a forgiven and forever beloved people!
ALL: Thanks be to God for such a gift.
*GLORIA PATRI (Hymnal #579) Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

THE RESPONSE
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE OF GOD
*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Book of Confessions 10.3
We trust in God, whom Jesus called Abba, Father. In sovereign love God created the world good and makes everyone equally in Gods image, male and female, of every race and people, to live as one community. But we rebel against God; we hide from our Creator. Ignoring Gods commandments, we violate the image of God in others and ourselves, accept lies as truth, exploit neighbor and nature, and threaten death to the planet entrusted to our care. We deserve Gods condemnation. Yet God acts with justice and mercy to redeem creation. In everlasting love, the God of Abraham and Sarah chose a covenant people to bless all families of the earth. Hearing their cry, God delivered the children of Israel from the house of bondage. Loving us still, God makes us heirs with Christ of the covenant. Like a mother who will not forsake her nursing child, like a father who runs to welcome the prodigal home, God is faithful still. Amen.

the God who gave all worlds that are, and all that are to be.

PRAYER FOR PEACE INDONESIA A couple of weeks ago, two bomb blasts occurred in Jakarta, damaging two hotels and killing and injuring many people. Jama Islamia claims responsibility for this coordinated attack. Violent extremism is still with the people of Indonesia. After years of quiet, the suicide bombers surprised guards, smuggling in bombs in their back-packs. Impact-resistant glass, installed following previous bombings to prevent attack from the outside, caused the damage to actually be worse by forcing the impact inward, resulting in actually more damage. One bomb on the 17th floor which would have forced frightened hotel guests to evacuate down the stairs to the lobby, actually failed to detonate, thus saving many lives. Father in Heaven, lift from us all the burden of fear in this terror-filled world. Help those in Indonesia who are so frightened that they would kill strangers in their city to wreck havoc on their own community and their country. Help those in power to listen to their citizens, to be sensitive to the anger of poor and displaced persons, and to become educated in love and caring for the whole population. Amen.
