The First Presbyterian Church of Dunedin
The Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
June 28, 2009
10:30 a.m.
Enter the church in silence. Through silence speak to God and let God speak to you.
PREPARATION: The following are the scripture texts for this morning: Psalm 130 (Pew Bible page 500); 2 Samuel 1:1, 17-27 (pages 240-241) David sings a song of lament over the deaths of Saul and Jonathan; 2 Corinthians 8:7-15 (page 941) Paul encourages the Corinthians to act with generosity toward others; Mark 5:21-43 (pages 816-817) Jesus stops on the way to Jairuss house to heal a hemorrhaging woman, then raises Jairus daughter from the dead.
PRAYER FOR THE DAY: Communicating God, as you have spoken through the prophets, so you speak today your words of truth and life through the living Christ. Help us be attentive and receptive worshipers that we may receive afresh your word of hope, Equip is with courage to speak the prophetic word of Jesus in our time, regardless of resistance and rejection. Amen

Sun and moon and all creation, dwellers all in time and space.

If you mark down our sins against you and each other, Lord, who could stand? In the dark night we wait for your forgiveness. We hope for the morning of your mercy. With you, O God, there is steadfast love. With you there is great power of forgiveness. Our hope is in you. Amen.

THE RESPONSE
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE OF GOD
*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Iona Community of Faith
We believe in Jesus Christ, Son of the one God, Maker and Sustainer of earth, sea and sky. Born of Marys womb, faithful to the God of Abraham and Sarah, Jesus healed the sick, served the poor, and proclaimed heaven on earth. Condemned by the religious, crucified by the state, he died but transformed even death and rose to life everlasting. He blessed the disciples with his Holy Spirit and sent them forth, east and west, north and south. We commit ourselves to Jesus, to one another as brothers and sisters and to his mission in the world in the grace of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

PRAYER FOR PEACE- CHURCH WORKERS Throughout the world, churches are struggling to maintain their pastors, administrators, choir and youth directors, and mission staff along with all the ongoing costs of maintaining their facilities and paying their bills. The Presbyterian Church is among those who are struggling. Staff of our local Tampa Bay Presbytery are being released, and service activities of the Presbytery are being reduced to half-time. All over the country, employees of faith-based organizations are facing similar reductions. Their situation is different from employees of commerce and industry in that, as employees of churches, our ministers and other employees do not qualify for unemployment compensation; so there is no grace period for them as they leave one position and seek new positions at other churches elsewhere. For pastors, this is particularly arduous since Gods Call to a pastor may not coincide with the financial reality we are in. A new posting might require relocation and dislocation of loved ones as well as great financial hardship to the family, but, worse, it may not meet the pastors interpretation of Gods Call! This is a terrible dilemma for our faith-based employees. Father in Heaven, please be with the families of pastors and staff of our Presbytery and all our churches. Help staff who have been released find ways of service that feed their souls and sources of income to provide for themselves and their loved ones. Amen.
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A CHURCH HOME and are interested in joining First Presbyterian Church of Dunedin, please indicate your desire to Pastor ByRoade so we can arrange a gathering of our Session.
WE WELCOME ALL WHO WORSHIP HERE TODAY Coloring pages for children to use during the worship hour are available from the ushers. Our nursery, for infants through age 3, is in the Christian Education Building, downstairs in Room 103. Large print bulletins and large print hymnals are available from the ushers.
