PREPARATION: The following are the scripture texts for this morning: Psalm 133 (Pew Bible page 501); Acts 4:32-35 (page 888) More and more people are joining the community of the church and sharing their possessions. 1 John 1:1-2:2 (page 989) God is light and those who walk in the light have fellowship with God and one another. John 20:19-31 (page 883) Jesus appears to his disciples and convinces Thomas that he has risen.

PRAYER FOR THE DAY: Living God, for whom no door is closed, no heart is locked, draw us beyond our doubts, till we see your Christ and touch his wounds where they bleed in others. This we ask through Christ our Savior, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
LEADER: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
PEOPLE: But if we confess our sins, God, who is merciful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
LEADER: In humility and faith, let us confess our sins against God and neighbor.
ALL: O God, you are light, and in you there is no darkness at all. We call ourselves children of light, but sometimes we act otherwise: we love ourselves more than others, we manipulate others to get our own way, and then pretend to be innocent. We deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. Shine your light into our dark places. Bring the truth to our lips. In your faithfulness, receive our confession and forgive us. Amen.

NEXT SUNDAY, April 26, 2009 will be the Third Sunday in Easter. The scripture readings for that day will be: Psalm 4 (Pew Bible Page 425); Acts 3:12-19 (page 887) At Solomon’s Portico Peter preaches a message of repentance. 1 John 3:1-7 (page 990) We are children of God, waiting for the revelation of what we will be. Luke 24:36-48 (page 861) Jesus appears to his disciples and recounts the fulfillment of Scriptures in him.

PRAYER FOR PEACE – SOMALIA Gangs from Somalia have become pirates on the high seas, causing great financial harm to the shippers, the crews, and suffering to their own families. In the latest incident, a ship attacked by pirates was loaded with humanitarian supplies on a mission of mercy. This is a terrible tragedy. And we watch the super powers of the world hesitate and wring their hands in the face of these small boats with their precocious crews attacking such gigantic ships. Stunningly, the pirates have yet to realize any real penalties while they collect huge ransoms to release the ships. Somalia is ungoverned and it’s clear that the pirate gangs are responding to extreme poverty in their lawless country. This is a perfect example of the lengths to which desperate people will go if they are uneducated, unemployed and hungry while their government looks the other way. Father in Heaven, help the government of Somalia to come to grips with their pirates and to stop them. Help us all to see the importance of the health and welfare for people in every country of the world. Help our leaders to find a way to reach these desperate people in Somalia and to bring order to their chaos. Amen.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT FAMILY DINNER this week the meal will be roast pork. The cost is $6.50 per adult; $4.00 12-18; $3.00 2-12; $18.00 max per family with children under 12. We eat at 6:15, so please come a little early to pay. Sign up today on the Friendship Register!

3 CENTS A MEAL will be collected today. Thank you for sharing your abundance with others as Jesus has challenged all of us to do. If each member at FPC gave 3 cents a meal for one year, their individual contribution would be $32.85 – what a positive impact that would be for helping others! RELAY FOR LIFE Friday, April 24^th at Dunedin Stadium. This is a great way to support a worthwhile event while getting to know some of your fellow church members. There will be an information table in Fellowship Hall on Sunday, April 19^th before and after the traditional service. This will be a great opportunity to turn in your bottles of dimes, sign up to join our team, purchase a chance to win a lovely colored pencil drawing by Dunedin artist and church member Nancy Christy and purchase a luminary in honor or memory of a loved one who has fought this disease called cancer.
